WorkSafe Tasmania administers legislation covering three policy areas: work health and safety, workers and asbestos compensation, and workplace relations. Our primary role is to improve work health and safety and return to work.

We are dedicated to making work in Tasmania safe and healthy, and supporting those who are harmed at work, in their life and work recovery. We do this through information, education, advice, compliance monitoring and enforcement. Specifically, this includes:

  • promoting safer and healthier workplaces and practices through practical guidance and education
  • investigating workplace incidents
  • auditing workplaces for compliance with legislation
  • promoting prompt and effective return to work through practical guidance and education
  • processing occupational licences and permits.

WorkSafe Tasmania also supports the WorkCover Board Tasmania in overseeing the workers compensation scheme and ensuring effective injury management.

One of our key strategic priorities is supporting people affected by workplace injuries. Our goal is to ensure that people are supported to minimise the impact of and maximise their recovery from physical and mental workplace injuries. This support should be provided through an early intervention approach in a fair and sustainable compensation system.

WorkSafe has offices in Burnie, Launceston and Rosny. Our website is worksafe.tas.gov.au.
