This presentation will explore the emerging role of Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB) in the management of complex pain and trauma-related conditions, with a particular focus on workplace lower back pain and PTSD. Dr Jie Xu and Dr Erica Remedios from Perth Specialist Pain Centre will discuss the clinical rationale behind SGB, potential applications within rehabilitation, and how this intervention may complement broader multidisciplinary approaches to recovery and return to work. The session will also consider practical implications for rehabilitation professionals supporting workers with persistent pain and psychological barriers to recovery.

Dr. Jie Xu
Dr. Jie Xu is a Specialist Physician in Pain Medicine with dual Fellowships: the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA). He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Monash University (2011) and has completed extensive training in both general and Pain Medicine at Sir Charles Gairdner and Royal Perth Hospitals. His clinical focus includes the management of complex pain disorders such as osteoarthritis, headaches, migraines, and more. Dr. Xu collaborates closely with allied health professionals and other medical specialists to deliver holistic, multidisciplinary care.

Dr. Remedios
Dr. Remedios is a Specialist Physician in Pain Medicine with dual Fellowships: the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FFPMANZCA).
She graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, followed by five years of Anaesthetic training within the WA training scheme and further specialization in Pain Management. Dr. Remedios has worked in all major WA hospitals as both an Anaesthetist and Pain Management Physician. Her current clinical practice focuses on the assessment and management of complex pelvic pain disorders and headaches, adopting a multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with allied health professionals.
